Actually, why are we born in this world ? why we humans are considered most conscious among all the creatures ? Is it just to live as it comes ? Get up in the morning, eat our foods, earn some money, find for some luxurious things, sleep in the night, give birth to the children just to further continue human life in the world and so on ? Is it all what we call humanity ?

Are we totally same to any other creature of this world ? Is it good if the answer comes “yes” ? If not, what makes us different than other creatures ? Is it only that we have two hands and two legs but others have only legs ? What might actually give the sense and purpose for our life ? Should we live just to live or there is some purpose behind our living ? Why is it bad to kill ourselves ? We don’t think that we are living only just because we are afraid of dying.

It was in 2004 A.D. We, a group of university students visited some rural villages of our country, just to pass the time and have some fresh air of fresh environment far from the crowd and pollution of Kathmandu . We saw there not only beautiful landscape and fresh environment but also how some of the people are living their lives and tried to compare their life with our own lives. We are living here in a luxurious house with all the modern facilities, at the same time they are living homeless. We almost finished our university degrees, but on the other hand, they never entered any school. There we saw, some children were going to school wearing school dress and books in their bags but some were going to help their parent’s work wearing torn and dirty clothes with the hammer in their hands.

Many women were kept by their husbands as if they were puppets to satisfy their husband’s sexual passion. They were raped by their husbands every night regardless of their health and desire. As a result of the rape by their husband, they gave birth to a new child almost every year. After that, food, shelter, clothing, education and health of those children was not within the afford of the parents. How do you define to a relation between a man and women when she is unable to live without one man ? She don’t have any other choice except either to kill herself or keep on living with all those sufferings. Socially she is not allowed to change her man, even if someone dares, there is no guarantee of any man to be different.

When a simple cold catches us, we call our doctor. Our health insurance pays for our medicine. But it was already their habit to die just from a simple disease. Just some cheap tablets could save their lives. They didn’t have any other choice except from believing on the chanting of some witch doctor.

Our sons and daughters go to a boarding school. Their classroom are already luxurious with comfortable chairs, cassette, C.D., V.C.D., D. V. D etc players. A big, colorful and expensive T.V. screen is always there in every class. The teachers already use overhead projector. Some of their classmates access anytime to the internet by their hand phone. Dictionary and many more are installed there. But still there are schools in the villages where you can see a classroom is the bottom of a big tree and the mouth of a teacher standing in front of the students is just and every teaching material.

Are you thinking that the situation is now already changed ? Of course, there have been efforts but it doesn’t seem to change with out great consciousness.

We felt real bitterness in our heart. What can we do then ? We are much too weak to change the situation. You may say that we can share with them what we already have. But does it make any sense to convert ourselves into their condition ? It also doesn’t seem possible to convert them to our position at once either.

Our minds were boiling. We get so often our friends together and discussed many decision-less discussions. Finally we met a decision. We may be too weak to face these problems at the moment. We may not get the desired and satisfactory result. But, we thought, at least, we can start a pace as a sample and as a lesion to others. Is there anybody of us not able to reduce their a cup of tea per day ? If we 200 friends are able to save just 5 rupees per day it becomes 1,000 rupees. Within a month it grows to 30,000. rupees. And this 30,000 rupees per month for a poor school, for those children and women are not just a joke. It can change their fate and the whole life.

We found also an idea. “Unity is the Strength” . Now we are united as a non-profitable and non-governmental organization “ Samudayik Tuki Nepal” a small lamp (Tuki) for those communities ( Samudaya). Now we are running “rural child and adult education program”, “women health promotion and skill development program”, “rural community school facilitation program” and soon are planning for “ Eco consciousness against global warming program”.

We believe that this world is still not deserted of kind, intellectual and intelligent human soul with their creative minds. We are always ready to pick anybody of any country as one of our friends to unite under our organization . We are always waiting to be advised and guided from you.
